Resolutions, generosity, and goodwill made easy

Hey cuz, it’s that time of year again. Everyone is making New Year’s resolutions and trying their best to keep them.  I am officially one of these people and I am happy to say that my ratio of resolutions kept against resolutions not kept is looking good.

But hey, don’t get discouraged if you can’t seem to fulfill all of yours. We’re only human, after all.  The important thing is that you are willing to engage in a practice that’s designed to make you a better person.

The trick is to NOT make your resolutions so earth-shatteringly difficult or drastic.  I’m sure all of you are familiar with the saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”.  Consider yourself a work in progress. If you hear detractors saying that’s all you’ll ever be, don’t feel bad. At least you’re MAKING some progress, unlike a lot of other people.

So, going back to my suggestion of sticking to more simple resolutions.  Keeping it simple will make it easier to stick to.  Once you see yourself succeeding, you’ll be stoked to keep going and, before you know it, you’ve completed your list of resolutions or stuck to the one big one you made all year.

Engage your market more

Get in a little deeper with your market.  Open better lines of communication and engage customers and potential leads in honest, candid conversation.  Don’t always talk shop. Or, if you do, don’t make it appear like you’ll only give out helpful tips and suggestions for a price.  Show a bit of generosity by offering helpful bits of information, and build better relationships with those who follow or subscribe to you.

Put in a little more creativity

By now, most people have noticed just how happening Pinterest is.  This is because images can speak volumes. And, the more creative images can convey almost an entire marketing campaign.  Infuse all of your online marketing efforts with a tad more creativity and watch just how many potential leads and customers you earn because of it.

Be a bit more original

It’s so easy to ride the tide created by trends.  People are talking about it, so many think it’s just too good to pass up.  Trend riding is one thing, but if you are able to actually create something original, then you have your claim to fame, something people will remember you by.  Be it a video, an image, or even written content, original pieces always get noticed.  In many cases, creating something original is as easy as drawing inspiration from whatever trends are already in the market, finding the best elements that work together, then voila!  You have your original idea!

Have a little more fun in what you’re doing

A lot of people don’t realize it, but if you enjoy what you’re doing, it reflects in your output.  By thinking of what you’re doing as more than just “simple work”, you remove that bothersome label that seems to take all the enjoyment out of your task.  Here’s the bonus to this idea:  Finding what makes your task more fun allows you to do the same in other things you do. Now, you are actively and critically looking at what you’re doing, instead of just going through the motions.

Give a little more than you receive

You don’t have to rely on the holidays to participate in the spirit of giving.  You can share a bit of your knowledge anytime and win a lot of appreciation, engagement, and a good deal of trust from your potential market.  You must have some very useful knowledge that can benefit someone out there, so go ahead and share a bit.  You can do this with or without the guise of marketing, although you do stand to win quite a bit more trust if your market views you as someone who shares useful knowledge freely, with no strings attached.  Think of it as giving out gifts periodically throughout the entire year. Everyone knows how most people feel about the big jolly guy in red who goes around the holidays passing out presents.

Here’s something I learned during the years I’ve been interacting with a lot of my cuzins while sharing what I know about online marketing. When you give out a lot, you get so much more back in return.  Seriously, cuz, try it. There is such a huge feeling of appreciation and well-being that comes with the knowledge that you helped out people doing what you are good at. And, that’s not even counting the appreciation they show you.

There are a lot of reasons why people love the holidays. One of main ones is that so many tend to be incredibly giving. Plus, the coming of the New Year gives everyone that chance for a new beginning.  Take this opportunity to make a great, fresh start for you and what you do, cuz. While you’re at it, take the chance to be excellent to people by sharing what knowledge you can.
