After literally YEARS of subtle (Infuriating) hints and measured (SLOW-ASS) updates, TechSmith finally comitted to releasing it’s venerable Camtasia Screen Recording, Capture, and Video Publishing tool for the second class citizens who toil on their Fisher Price era Macintoshes.
The big day is August 25th, 2009 ( I double checked the year, just to be safe)
Here’s the latest build of the Mac Interface:

According to the Techsmith Blog, the introductory price point is only $99. As a Mac user, I’m thrilled to get the chance to use this software for a THIRD of the price of it’s Windows counterpart, but it leads me to suspect that some of the features might be truncated.
Will the same publishing tools be available? Is the scope of editing tools and effects on the same order as the Windoze version?
In other words, whats missing? Any thoughts?
Anyone have “Insider Information?”
Of course, I’ll be the 3rd person in line to download and review. I might even use it to make a video review – provided that it contains the right set of tools. Here’s to hoping!
See you on the 25th!
Please read my Affiliate Disclaimer: From time to time, I will promote, endorse, or suggest products and/or services for sale that are not my own. My recommendation is ALWAYS based on my personal belief that the product and it’s author will provide excellent and valuable information or service. This may be based on a review of that product, my personal or professional relationship with that person or company, and/or a previous positive experience with the person or company who’s product I am recommending. In most cases, I will be compensated via a commission if you decide to purchase that product based on my recommendation. In some cases, I will receive the product for free for review purposes, or just to use. In some cases, I have used that product to my personal satisfaction in my own business.
IMPORTANT: Always Always ALWAYS do your OWN due-diligence before making any purchases, whether I recommend them or not. Never, EVER purchase anything that you cannot afford. Avoid purchasing products that do not have a clearly stated Money Back Guarantee, or that promise ridiculous results, like “Getting Rich Quick”. Most people don’t do anything with the products they buy, and most of the time, their results are zero – kind of like that Bowflex that I bought that is now serving as a clothing rack… No, there is no such thing as a “Free Lunch”. Don’t do drugs, stay in school, etc. Be safe out there!
Any idea what advantages this has over Screenflow… I’m kinda diggin screenflow…

Someone at work introduced me to Screenflow. I was amazed at how cool it was.
I would imagine that matching Screenflow’s price is the real reason for the $99 price tag, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s not “feature matched” with the Windows version of Camtasia at this point.
Even if it is, I don’t think that’s reason enough for me to switch away from Screenflow — I was a hardcore Camtasia user but I haven’t missed it at all since Screenflow came on the scene.

Exactly what Jay said, pretty much. Was a die-hard Camtasia lover until I switched to Mac. Tried iShowU, never fell in love. ScreenFlow was another story though.
In short – the Camtasia Mac interface is rather reminiscent of Screenflow’s. Might wanna do a side-by-side comparisson. Wouldn’t mind seeing how the features compare either.
Likin’ the Thesis. xD

The newest version of the mac OS (snow leopard) is coming with free screen capture software.
From what I’ve read the beta version is out now (you have to be a beta tester for snow leopard) and it is rumored that they are going to increase the feature set before it goes live.
I’ve also read that the new OS comes with quicktime pro so you don’t have to pay to upgrade… Rad.
Suffering from a serious case of Mac Envy…*sigh*
Hi Andy,
I’d be happy to provide any backstory and share a few details if you got a minute. feel free to contact me… t dot stein at techsmith dot com. Also, gotta put a shout out to Zain Bador for connecting me w/ you.

I love Screenflow and Jing. The only thing Jing doesn’t do for me is video cam capture (like pic in pic).

What is the word now that Camtasia for Mac has been out for a while?
What is better Camtasia for Mac or Screenflow?
I am new to Mac so just learning the ropes.
I did pick up iWork and Final Cut Express on Andy’s recommendation. Thanks Andy!
